White Plains, NY (March 21, 2018) — SURTEX®, the gathering place for the surface design industry, is May 20-22, 2018 in New York. This event brings owners and creators of surface designs and manufacturers, retailers, marketers, brand licensing companies-anyone that uses surface design for product development – together under one roof. As a global sourcing destination it attracts those seeking unique art, designs, patterns and prints for comercial use on home textiles, paper products, bed & bath, liestyle & decor, apparel, gift, toy, beauty, stationery, weavers and rug manufacturers, greeting cards, and more.
“We are looking forward to an outstanding Show,” said Randi Mohr, Emerald Expositions vice president and SURTEX show director. “The range of talent represented at SURTEX is immense-and includes many first-time exhibiting artists as well as very established names.” Mohr noted the international component of the show, with more than 25% of the exhibitor base from outside of the United States. “We are proud to be a destination for all buyers and licensees, both international and representing the U.S.”
The 2018 show again features the Design District, space for individual artists who are participating for the first time at SURTEX and the Atelier section, highlighting trend-forward surface designs available for purchase for a broad range of manufacturers-interior textiles, fashion fabrics, wall coverings, paper, and more-that are seeking the latest prints, patterns, repeats, and design services for product development needs. Both experienced licensors and newcomers can take advantage of the Art & Brand Licensing forum where exhibiting artists, designers, agencies, and brands feature thousands of creative works available for license.
Two New York design schools will highlight some of their students’ work, as well as feature speakers in the Theatre on the Boulevard. The Fashion Institute of Technology associates and bachelor students in the Textile Surface and Fabric Styling Department will be displaying digitally printed or color photocopied original artwork. Students from the Pratt Institute will present spatial wallpaper, which is an interactive wallpaper tile system that is functional and manipulable. Both Eric Ramirez, FIT and Deborah Schneiderman, a professor of Interior Design in the School of Design at Pratt Institute will present trend seminars in the Theatre.
The Theatre will be located on the Boulevard this year, offering an inspiring and informative lineup of speakers including Bridgette Morphew & Jason Lyon, Paradox/Morphew; Nancy Fire, Design Works International; Jennifer Marks, Home & Textiles Today; Steve Greenberg, Pointcarre; and Peat Wollaeger, Eyez Brand. New this year, the Boulevard literally brings SURTEX together with the NSS, once again adjacent, highlighting the synergies between the two events. This aisle between the two shows will be home to the shared social media lounge, daily activities and demonstrations and the Theatre, featuring free trend seminars and speakers addressing both industries.
