White Plains, NY (March 9, 2017) — Now in its 31st year, SURTEX is the global B2B marketplace for sourcing original art and design. This annual event, set to stage May 21-23, 2017 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, connects artists, art agents, licensing agencies and licensors with manufacturers and retailers. Each year, nearly 200 exhibitors of talented artists gather at SURTEX to introduce thousands of designs to the 4,500 buyers/manufacturers from 29 countries who attend the show in search of the trends that will set their products apart from the competition.
Licensed art and design is everywhere, from housewares to furnishings to apparel and more,” said Jill Campbell, vice president of marketing for Emerald Expositions. “Since the show began more than 30 years ago, it has become a premier global forum for the sale and licensing of art, where hundreds of artists with unique designs meet manufacturers seeking fresh trending designs for use on their finished products and goods.”
The breadth of possibilities is endless as the journey begins at SURTEX, where artists and designers display their latest art, patterns, and prints for manufacturers to preview and ultimately buy or license for use on their consumer products or private label needs.
There are many paths to becoming a working artist in the industry, whether by choosing to submit art directly to a manufacturer, to be “discovered” at a trade show, like SURTEX, or work with an art licensing agent. Charles Gallagher of PTS Fabric attends SURTEX year after year because he knows he will find creativity. “We keep coming back to SURTEX because it has such wonderful art” said Gallagher. “It’s new and fresh. We’re looking out for new trends, something great and different.”
Lisa Hom of Parasol Co. was a new attendee in 2016 and will be back because SURTEX offers convenience and trend setting designs all under one roof. “I came to find amazing designers and talent from across the world that I can’t access or find just sitting at my desk” said Hom. “I’m really looking for bold and vibrant designers. I’m from the baby category, so I’m looking for designs that really speak to the young millennial.”
SURTEX is the place to be to obtain the insights and best practices artists need to assist them to master the intricate world of the art licensing business.
